Preventive care

Keep vaccination, deworming and tick-care dates organised

A simple system for keeping products, dates and reminder preferences together without relying on memory.

Record what actually happened

For each preventive-care event, keep the date, product or vaccine name, dose or strength if shown, the clinic or prescriber, and the next review date. A vague note such as “tick medicine last month” is less useful than a photograph of the pack and an exact date.

Use one source of truth

Paper cards, phone calendars and messages can all help, but choose one main record and update it consistently. DCR Vets is building the pet-owner timeline so approved clinic records, due dates and reminder preferences can stay connected.

Treat reminders as prompts to review

A reminder does not mean every product or dose should be repeated automatically. Weight, health, age and lifestyle can change. Use the reminder to check the plan with the clinic.

Include every pet in the household

Keep separate records even when pets receive care on the same day. Similar names, different weights and different products can otherwise become confusing.

Review after a move or lifestyle change

Travel, boarding, a new pet, a changed walking routine or a new health condition can alter the questions worth discussing. Bring the existing timeline to the next consultation rather than starting from memory.

Never combine or repeat parasite products without veterinary guidance. If you think a dose was missed or duplicated, contact the clinic with the product details.
