Travelling with pets

A pre-travel veterinary checklist for pet owners

Start early, verify official rules and bring the information that makes a travel-health consultation useful.

Begin with destination and date

Write down the exact destination, route, departure date and carrier. Requirements can differ between domestic and international travel, transit locations and transport providers.

Check official sources

Use the current government, embassy, animal-health authority and carrier information for your journey. Rules can change, and a clinic cannot guarantee that a destination or carrier will accept documents.

Gather the health record

Bring vaccination records, microchip information if applicable, earlier test results, medicine details and previous travel certificates. Check that names and identification details are consistent across documents.

Work backwards from deadlines

Some steps may need a specific order or waiting period. Ask early enough to leave room for examination, testing, document correction and authority processing where required.

Plan comfort and medicine safely

Discuss known anxiety, motion problems or health conditions with the doctor. Do not give a sedative or unfamiliar medicine solely for travel without veterinary direction.

This checklist helps organise a veterinary consultation. The owner remains responsible for verifying the current legal and carrier requirements for the complete journey.

Need case-specific guidance?

Let the consultation begin with context.
